Quotes on Art

I nominated one of my art teachers for the Teacher of the Year award at our school. I hope she wins!

Quotes on Gardens

"A weed is no more than a flower in disguise." -James Russell Lowell

"Gardening is a kind of disease. It infects you, you cannot escape it. When you go visiting, your eyes rove about the garden; you interrupt the serious cocktail drinking because of an irresistible impulse to get up and pull a weed." -Lewis Gannit
This quote is totally my Grandma. She shouldn't be doing it, with her health and all, but in the summer, she will always go out and pull dandelions from her yard. Then my mom yells at her because she has a bad back and knee.

Quotes on Travel

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." -Mark Twain

"A person needs at intervals to separate from family and companions and go to new places. One must go without familiars in order to be open to influences, to change." -Katharine Butler Hathaway

"As the traveler who has once been from home is wiser than he who has never left his own doorstep, so a knowledge of one other culture should sharpen our ability to scrutinize more steadily, to appreciate more lovingly, our own." -Margaret Mead
